Unexpectedly, pregnancy and postpartum can be very   challenging transitions.

WHY GET HELP NOW?

All too often, the stresses of major life transitions like becoming a parent or starting or completing college are overlooked and underestimated because we get messages from a very early age that these parts of our life are just supposed to happen. The truth of the matter is that major life transitions often are met with increased levels of stress, anxiety and even depression.  Just because it is "time" to start a family or "time" to go to college, does not mean it will be easy. Therapy has the power to help you tap into your inherent strengths so that you can come out of this time in your life stronger and more prepared for what is in store next.

Seeking help DOES NOT make you weak or a bad parent. It actually is a sign of strength because you know what you can handle on your own and you know when you need to ask for a little extra help. I am here to help you through this time in your life so you can be your best self possible. You just need a little extra support as you adjust to this time of transition in your life.

MEET JENNIFER

We are probably more alike than we are different. I understand how the quest for perfection can lead to depression and anxiety, both as a parent and as a student. And I consider myself a recovering perfectionist.

Having spent many years in college completing both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree, I understand well the tedious balancing act that is required. And the social pressures that you are faced with every day. I love working with students just like you to help you improve your self-confidence and develop or redefine your sense of self.

I am a parent who loves helping new parents navigate the adjustment as they develop in their new role while juggling existing roles.

My graduate training allowed me to know where to look further when I became a parent and experienced hurdles along the way. Specialized training and credentials I have received include:

  • Certification as a Perinatal Mental Health Professional by Postpartum Support International

  • 12 hour Post Graduate Professional Training: The Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress presented by Karen Kleiman, LCSW (well known international maternal mental health expert, author and founder and owner of the Postpartum Stress Center.)

  • 2 Day Components of Care: Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders presented by Postpartum Support International

  • Completed training to become a "Bringing Baby Home Educator" with The Gottman Institute.

  • Completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy with The Gottman Institute.

Prior to opening my practice, I worked in management for a Fortune 100 corporation, so I get it! It is not easy! New moms often experience a "career crisis" after having a baby and don't understand what is going on inside of them, let alone around them. I love working with new moms to help them figure out how to get back to work, how to shift their career focus, or how to adjust to a new role as a career mom.
